Poornima Seetharaman, lead game designer at a Bengaluru-based gaming company, says, "The city is a preferred destination not only for Indian gaming companies, but also the international ones who regularly conduct gaming conferences and fests to interact with the gaming community. Currently, the trend is leaning towards social casino games, such as teen patti, rummy, poker, etc. There are also a lot of games that are developed keeping the Indian audience in mind, which have culturally-relatable elements in them." Poornima Iyer, who runs Pinaka Interactive, a game design and development company based in Navi Mumbai, says women no longer fall into neat little categories. “There are women gamers and developers who love their designer bags just as much as they love their games. I watch romantic comedies and I like sci-fi and fantasy,” she says. “You shape your own identity. Ele's idea was to draw on cards and a game board, which lead people through the steps to find a solution to a shared problem. As Ele puts it, "Imagine a neighborhood constantly jammed with traffic. Councils have tried and failed to tackle it, urban planners have given up, other authorities shun responsibility. What if the answer can be found in a simple game that can be applied to any problem? A fun game that can be downloaded and printed at home, a collaborative game that ignites the greatest power we all have: our imaginence (imagination + intelligence). Could local solutions created by friends and neighbors trigger landslide change?" The game premiered at the Vivid Sydney 2013 event, where groups came together to arrive at a solution for public housing. The idea brief can be read here.
